A total of 247 foreign-invested companies in Shanghai were included in the first batch of 666 companies on the city's "white list" designed to support firms to resume production amid COVID-19 control, an official said Thursday.

Multinational pharmaceutical company Merck entered into an agreement with the administrative management committee of the Wuxi National High-tech Industrial Development Zone on Thursday. According to the agreement, the industry giant will expand its single-use manufacturing center in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province.

The Chinese mainland on Friday reported 1,410 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which 1,249 were in Shanghai, according to the National Health Commission's report on Saturday.The rest of the cases were reported in 14 other provincial-level regions, including Beijing, Guangdong and Sichuan.

Four more areas in Beijing were classified as medium-risk areas for COVID-19 on Saturday, the municipal government said.The latest classifications have brought the total number of high-risk areas in Beijing to six and medium-risk areas to 23, said a press conference on local epidemic prevention and control work.
