The 44th session of the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO wrapped up on Saturday in Fuzhou, capital of east China's Fujian Province, with a total of 34 new sites inscribed on the World Heritage List.The current session's inscriptions, which include 29 cultural sites and five natural ones, bring the total number of sites on UNESCO's World Heritage to 1,154.

Shanghai has strengthened and upgraded its control measures at nucleic acid test sites and fever clinics as the recent COVID-19 epidemic situation in neighboring city Nanjing has become serious. Nanjing, with a population of more than 9.3 million, reported 190 confirmed cases by Friday, since a resurgence of cluster infections emerged on July 20.

Coffee has become a lifestyle choice for urban Chinese consumers, with multiple types of the brewed beverage entering the fray, said a recent report from consultancy CBNData. In a survey polling 2,000 consumers in May from China's first- and second-tier cities, over 60 percent said they drink three cups of coffee per week or more. Such cities, exemplified by Shanghai and Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, usually indicate higher levels of economic development and disposable income.

A new direct China-Europe freight train service was launched on Thursday, linking North China's inland province of Shanxi with Turkey. A train loaded with goods, including daily necessities, machinery and equipment, left a logistics park in Taiyuan, the provincial capital, on Thursday morning for Mersin in southern Turkey.

China will maintain a stable fiscal policy and improve countercyclical adjustments to sustain necessary supports for the economic recovery in the second half of this year, Finance Minister Liu Kun said on Friday.

The Chinese mainland on Saturday reported 53 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Sunday. Of the locally transmitted cases, 30 were reported in Jiangsu, 12 in Henan, four in Hunan, three in Yunnan, and one each in Fujian, Shandong, Hubei and Ningxia, according to the commission.
