China has established a working team to push its accession to the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement, the Ministry of Commerce said in an online statement on Friday. Signed by New Zealand, Singapore and Chile in June 2020, the DEPA coordinates policies on digital economy and is the first of its kind in the world. The pact covers almost all key sectors of the digital economy, ranging from facilitation of commerce and trade to personal information safety.

China has been expanding its 5G infrastructure at a rapid pace, utilizing the next-generation wireless technology to facilitate the digitalization of different sectors of the country.By the end of June, some 1.85 million 5G base stations have been built, supporting over 450 million end users, both accounting for over 60 percent of the global total.

Hong Kong and Macao residents working in the Nansha district of Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, are eligible for partial exemption from personal income tax which exceeds that in the two special administrative regions, according to a new policy.

The Chinese mainland on Saturday reported 553 locally-transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which 440 were in Hainan Province, the National Health Commission said on Sunday. Altogether 1,628 local asymptomatic carriers were newly identified on Saturday, including 625 in Hainan and 560 in the Tibet Autonomous Region, said the commission in its report.

China's national observatory on Sunday continued to issue a red alert for high temperatures, the most severe warning in its four-tier warning system, as sweltering heatwaves still linger in a dozen of provincial-level regions. It is the 10th consecutive day that the National Meteorological Center has issued a red alert for high temperatures.

Gansu, once one of the impoverished provinces of inland China, has won its battle against extreme poverty and made great progress by changing its economic development mode in the past decade, senior officials said. "Over the past 10 years, we adhered to the new development concepts and laid a solid foundation for high-quality development," Yin Hong, Party secretary of Gansu, said on Saturday at a news conference in the provincial capital, Lanzhou.
