The Chinese market for stainless steel shows resilience and is brimming with opportunities, despite the disruption that COVID-19 has brought to the global stainless steel industry, according to industry insiders.

The Chinese mainland on Wednesday reported 614 locally transmitted confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which 496 were in Hainan Province, the National Health Commission said on Thursday. Altogether 2,810 local asymptomatic carriers were newly identified on the day, including 1,522 in Hainan, 870 in Tibet Autonomous Region and 224 in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, said the commission in its report.

Shanghai's foreign trade volume hit a monthly record high in July, surpassing 400 billion yuan (about $59 billion), reaching 404.22 billion yuan, Shanghai Customs said Thursday. Last month, the megacity's exports and imports increased by 32.9 percent and 16.4 percent, respectively, over the same period of last year.

The last track beam (T-beam) of a light rail project undertaken by a Chinese company in Southwest Nigeria's economic hub Lagos was laid successfully Wednesday, meaning the project entered the final stage of construction. The 27-km Lagos Blue Line Rail Mass Transit project, constructed by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), is expected to ease the serious traffic congestion in the city.
