Freight train service between China and Europe has maintained steady operations to ensure the stability of international supply chains amid COVID-19, China State Railway Group said on Friday. According to the group, 1,352 trips were operated last month, transporting 131,000 containers. It was the third month operating more than 1,300 such services since May. It was also the 15th month to operate more than 1,000 services since May last year.

China has shut down a key terminal at its Ningbo-Zhoushan port, the third busiest port in the world, after one worker was found to be infected by Covid — a move that will likely put further pressure on already stretched supply networks. It was the second time this year that the country suspended operations at one of its key ports.

China is at a "low risk" of developing a nationwide, large-scale COVID-19 outbreak, as the recent resurgence of the epidemic since late July has been generally under control, a health official said on Friday. As of Thursday, over 1,280 locally transmitted cases had been reported in 48 cities across 18 provincial-level regions. Among the cities, 36 have reported no new cases for more than five consecutive days, said He Qinghua, an official with the National Health Commission, at a press conference held in Beijing.

The Chinese mainland on Thursday reported 47 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases: 26 in Jiangsu Province, 14 in Henan, four in Hubei, two in Hunan and one in Yunnan, the National Health Commission said in its daily report on Friday. Also reported were 52 new imported cases, including 17 in Henan, nine each in Guangdong and Yunnan, seven in Guangxi, five in Shanghai, two in Sichuan and one each in Liaoning, Shandong and Shaanxi.
