Shanghai's foreign trade grew 19 percent year-on-year to 1.88 trillion yuan ($290.1 billion) during the first half of 202, customs authorities said Tuesday. In H1, exports in Shanghai rose by 9.6 percent to 703.78 billion yuan, while imports went up 25.4 percent to 1.18 trillion yuan.

Shanghai's health QR code, or the Suishenma digital ID, has expanded its scope to cover social security and traffic cards as well as other certificates for citizens. The Suishenma code was initiated in February 2020 to check the travel history of individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic. It later became the digital ID for citizens and companies due to its convenience and efficiency. Foreigners and those from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan also can apply for Suishenma and enjoy eligible services.

The virus strain behind the latest clusters of COVID-19 cases in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, has been identified as the highly infectious Delta variant, local authorities said Tuesday. The recent spike in infections in the city can be attributed to the special location of the outbreak and the highly contagious nature of the strain, said Ding Jie, vice director of the city's center for disease control and prevention, at a press conference.

China on Monday unveiled its first negative list for cross-border trade in services. The list will be implemented in the Hainan Free Trade Port. It is a major breakthrough in the country's opening-up for trade in services, said senior government officials.

An initiative that helps enterprises upscale their businesses in the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone has borne early fruit since its inception seven months ago. The first batch of 41 companies joining the Global Operation Program has enjoyed expanded functions and better connectivity with global resources, thus elevating the position of these China-based entities within their own global apparatus, according to local authorities and business executives.
